(Foreword: The following is one of my memories from The Underground and not fanfiction, so please don't treat it as such.)
---
Beastpup rests on the couch in the quiet home. There's a large dog bed in the corner by the side table, but when no one else is home he prefers the extra space of the couch. The silence is interrupted though by the faint sound of arguing outside. Initially he tries to ignore it, but that quickly becomes impossible as the door opens and it continues inside. Sans says he wants to be left alone, but Papyrus keeps pressing the issue, making Sans snap and argue more.

A harsh bark, and the room falls silent with both of them looking at Pup. After a moment, Sans goes up the stairs and straight to his room.

"B-brother, wait!" Papyrus calls, but doesn't get a response.

Papyrus sits down on the couch, seeming downcast, and Beastpup looks up at him with a whine. He smiles a little, taking off his mittens and ruffling Pup's face fur. Pup then looked towards the staircase.

"I'll talk to him. You stay here, it's been a long day," Pup says, before heading up the stairs.

At the top, he goes to whine outside Sans's door. This works after long enough, as usual, and the door clicks open when turns the knob with his magic. The room is dark, and he silently lies in bed with a ball of yarn that he occasionally tosses in the air. He soon makes a cat's cradle.

"...what do you want, Pup?"

"You don't usually yell, especially not at him," Pup says, closing the door behind him with his tail.

"He gets on my nerves sometimes, alright?"

"Sans."

It was slight, but Pup could see him tense for a moment.

"...he looks so much like him, Pup," he sighs. "I'm tired of pretending he was never real."

It was this again.

"I know, but--"

"No, you don't. And neither does Pap, or anyone else."

"That doesn't mean you should lash out like it's someone's fault, I've told you before," Pup says, standing with his forepaws on the side of the bed.

"I don't need a lecture. Go snitch to Grillby if you have to; someone not our dog."

"Looking after you was an order from your dad," Beastpup replies sternly with his ears pulled back. "I don't remember everything, but that was the last thing he told me."

"You never talk about him."

"I didn't want to upset you. But he always trusted me to look after his boys since you two were born, and that means you're my boys too."

Pup's ears twitched back to their resting position after hearing a short, quiet laugh.

"...And as one of my boys, that means I can lecture you when I want, Genius," Pup says before grabbing the yarn ball from the bed with one of his paws, tossing it towards the door and leaving a trail of string.

"...very funny, Pup. Give me the ball back."

"No, you have to go get it."

A blue light engulfed the ball and started to float it upwards, but a purple light froze it in place.

"I don't think that counts as a projectile."

"It does if you're holding it," Pup replies.

Sans pulled again but it wouldn't budge very far. Sighing, the light left the ball and it fell back to the ground before he stood up to go retrieve it.

"Now go apologize to your brother," Pup says once Sans reaches the door.

Sans picks up the yarn and stands there for a moment staring down at it in his hands, as if he couldn't decide what to do.

"...just...give me a minute, alright?" he replied, walking over and sitting back down at his bed.
